Sunday afternoon theatre arrives at the River Gardens Café.
Talking Heads, by Alan Bennett
We are delighted to bring Talking Heads, by Alan Bennett to London on Sunday afternoon 15th January. This is an open event, but it is especially presented for the enjoyment of the residents of River Gardens whilst helping raise money for the Greenwich Winter Food Bank.
This one man show performed by the highly talented John Lofthouse is a dramatic presentation of two of Alan Bennett's Talking Head's monologues which became famous in the late 1980s when they were recorded and broadcast by the BBC, the performances being given by noted actors including the author himself.
The monologues are universally hailed for their combination of razor-sharp wit and deeply felt humanity and have been re-recorded and performed on stage countless times over the last thirty years. Their humour remains as fresh and their subjects as engaging today as the day they were written.
The show will start at 5:30pm with the first monologue after which there will be an intermission before the second monologue. The bar will be open for alcoholic and soft drinks together with tea and coffee before the show and during the intermission.
A chip in the sugar tells the story of Graham - a middle-aged man who lives with his mother. Their comfortable existence is shaken to the core when Graham's mother meets an old flame who proposes marriage.
In A bed among the lentils, we meet Susan - an alcoholic Vicar's wife who, through escaping her insensitive husband and her debts at the local off-licence, begins an affair with an Indian grocer.
Tickets at £10 are available from www.entertainment-events.co.uk All profits from this performance after license and production costs will be donated to Greenwich Foodbank Winter Fund, which has an urgent need for funds and about which more details can be found https://greenwich.foodbank.org.uk/2022/10/06/greenwich-winter-fund/
We look forward to seeing you at this event which we hope will be the first of many!
